Welcome to Age Friendly Cornwall

Helping people to live well and age well
Cornwall should be a place where people can live well at every stage of life.
Age Friendly Cornwall is a partnership programme working to make Cornwall a better place to grow older.
The programme brings together residents, community groups, health services, businesses and local organisations who share a common goal: helping people enjoy later life and continue contributing to the communities they care about.
At its heart, Age Friendly Cornwall is about creating places where people can remain healthy and independent for as long as possible.
It is also about making sure people feel included, valued and able to access the information and support they need when they need it.
The approach is part of a global movement led by the World Health Organization, which encourages communities around the world to take action to support healthy ageing.
Cornwall has many strengths, including strong communities, a vibrant voluntary sector and people who care deeply about where they live.
By working together, we can build on these strengths to make Cornwall a place where everyone can continue to thrive as they grow older.
What is Age Friendly Cornwall?
An Age Friendly Community is a place that supports people to live well as they grow older.
It recognises that ageing is a normal part of life and that communities should adapt so people can remain active, connected and independent.
In an age friendly community, local organisations, services and residents work together to create environments that support healthy ageing.
This might include improving access to information, making public spaces easier to use, supporting community activities or helping people stay socially connected.
Across the UK, many towns, cities and regions are part of the UK Network of Age-friendly Communities, which supports areas to learn from each other and share good practice.
Creating an age friendly community here in Cornwall benefits everyone, as improvements made to support older people often make places more accessible, inclusive and welcoming for people of all ages.
